What exactly does a locksmith’s day entail?
You’d be pretty surprised how many people ask me what exactly a day in the life of a Doncaster locksmith entails and whether I am even busy. In fact, and I speak for the vast majority of established locksmiths, it’s the best job in the world at times. Supplying & fitting locks may not sound enthralling, and it isn’t at times. But who gets to go into other people’s houses, which vary from the top to the bottom? When I say bottom, I mean the very bottom at times, which is disgusting. If you like seeing how the other half lives, you will love being a locksmith.
My locksmith services
I attend burglaries, eviction work, warrants, and domestic fallouts. I also help the emergency services when needed. I’ve also got to sit down and have a cup of tea and a biscuit with your “nan” after fixing her locks. Spending time with older people who don’t see people daily is invaluable. Every day is a mix and never the same. Along with the constant need to learn new techniques as locks evolve.
I’ve worked at all major local football grounds. I’ve also worked at supermarkets, schools, council offices, and HMRC buildings. And the list goes on. New housing estates and blocks of flats wishing you had gone for the knee replacement.
Replacing door & window locks
It’s the bread and butter of the job, and having a large stock makes the work easy. It does not look good having to leave a property insecure while you wait for parts. So, if you want to be a locksmith, be ready to have deep pockets. You will need to keep a lot of stock on hand. Carrying a few locks in the boot of a car does not look good to a customer.

Attending emergency break-ins
I can also respond to a call after a burglary to replace damaged locks. After the police, customers often need the services of a Doncaster locksmith. I reassure them and offer a friendly face. This is usually a traumatic experience to remember. I will need to assess the damage and will repair the locks if required. If the locks are beyond repair, I will fit new locks. I will also fix any other damage to doors or windows. I’ll also be able to provide extra security to try and give the customer much-needed peace of mind in the future.
Assisting customers experiencing lock-outs
People also call me because they’ve locked themselves out. They’ve had that sinking feeling of arriving home and realising what they did. I can become the knight in shining armour…or at least in tin foil. I’m a locksmith. I can get you in without damaging the door. Then, if needed, I can fit a new lock. It’s much cheaper than breaking a door. And it’s safer than the homeowner trying to climb a drainpipe to get in a window.

Installing new door locks
Locks on gates, garages, and sheds are also needed, all part of the job. I install safes for storing valuables and fit door code pads when needed. That’s before we even start fitting and repairing UPVC doors and windows, which can take up much of the day.
In summary, my day as a locksmith is varied and weird. But whatever I’m doing, I pride myself on providing very professional, friendly service.
